Jason Mercier is sick.

All tournament grinders who are going through a down-swing should look at the Florida native for an example of how it is actually possible to make money playing these sickly high-variance events.  A lot of money.

Since April 2008 he has accumulated an EPT title, the first ever European Poker ‘High Rollers’ event, made a WSOPE final table and taken down events at the L.A. Poker Classic and the Wynn Classic. His total prize money from live poker in this time is just shy of a jaw-dropping $3million (check out the video below showing his winning moment at the EPT San Remo, netting him over $1.3million):



But the man known as ‘treysfull21’ online is clearly not content with just live success alone – he has also been very profitable at the Full Tilt FTOPS XII. Fresh off a 13th place finish in Event #22 ($2,620 NLH for $14,000), he now also has a major online title to his name as a result of Event #23. The $100 PLO with Re-Buys was always going to attract a significant amount of good players and so it proved – Mercier fought through them all (1,031 runners) to scoop 1st place and the biggest online score of his career to date - $86,603. Though he started his career online, Mercier has not been seen at the business end of any major MTT’s until now and it is definitely surprising that it has taken him so long to take down a prestigious FTOPS or WCOOP title – now he has 1, we would not be surprised to see him take down a few more in months and years to come.

Clearly the Fort Lauderdale native is one of the brightest tournament talents anywhere in the world right now – and is surely one to look out for at the 2009 WSOP. He has had quite a year and with major offline and online titles to his name, hopefully Mercier will get some more of the credit he richly deserves in forthcoming weeks.
